Synod | St. Patrick and Holy Family Parishes

Walk together as a Church with the Holy Spirit

The purpose of the Synod is “to plant dreams,” to “journey together” following the course of the Church in the third millennium with a truly synodal mentality.

What are we doing?

A key goal of the Synod is to engage as many people as possible to provide them with an opportunity to share their thoughts and to discern what the Holy Spirit is asking of the Church in the 21st Century. We are seeking prayerful input on the needs of the Church today and the way to speak about the mission of Christ to all people in the world we live in today.

More ways to “Share your thoughts with us”

Holy Family Parish and St. Patrick Parish (Lucan) provided Two online opportunities or Listening Sessions as part of the Synod on Synodality, registration for those is now closed. Thank you to those who participated. We value and appreciate hearing your thoughts.

For those who were unable to attend our online sessions we have created an Individual Reflection Form that you can complete either online, print off a pdf version or grab a paper copy from the Narthex at the Weekend Masses or from the office during the week.

What is the aim of this Synod?

This Synod is intended as a Synodal Process. The aim of this synodal process is not to provide a temporary or one-time experience of synodality, but rather to provide an opportunity for the entire People of God to discern together how to move forward on the path towards being a more synodal Church in the long-term.

A basic question prompts and guides us: How does this journeying together allow the Church to proclaim the Gospel in accordance with the mission entrusted to Her; and what steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow as a synodal Church?

We recall that the purpose of the Synod is not to produce documents, but to plant dreams, draw forth prophecies and visions, allow hope to flourish, inspire trust, bind up wounds, weave together relationships, awaken a dawn of hope, learn from one another and create a bright resourcefulness that will enlighten minds, warm hearts, give strength to our hands.

What are we asking?

What have been your experiences of “journeying together” with the Catholic Church?

  • · What joy did these experiences bring?
  • · What difficulties and obstacles have you encountered?

As we journey forward together, what are your hopes and dreams for the Church?

Interested in Volunteering?

One of the ways you can be part of the Synod and add to the success of the Listening Sessions in our Family of Parishes is to volunteer to be a Table Leader and/or a Table Scribe.
